Residency Requirement & Off-Campus Requests
Hastings College Residency Requirement
The Hastings College residency requirement reflects a commitment to personal growth through on-campus residency and serves to uphold the overall mission of the college. All first-year, sophomore and junior students, including Hastings area students, are required to live on campus unless they meet one of the criteria below:
Reside with their parent or legal guardian in their primary residence within a 30 mile radius of Hastings, Nebraska for the entire academic year (notarized documentation upload required)
Are in a registered marriage or domestic partnership (documentation required)
Are a single, custodial parent (documentation required)
Will turn 22 before the start of the full academic year (on or before the first day of Fall classes)
Have their Associate’s degree after attending another institution, and will turn 21 within the school year.
Request for a Special Exemption due to Financial Issues (approval of this exemption will be evaluated by the Housing Committee and requires FASFA as well as financial aid award documentation.)
*Bryan Students Only* Have 8 or less non-nursing credit hours to complete during course of study
Off-Campus Request
Students who believe they qualify for an exemption to the 3 year residency requirement may apply for consideration using this form. Deadline for returning students to apply for an exemption for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 is March 26, 2024! Students who have already met the 3 year residency requirement do NOT need to fill out an off-campus exemption form - we'll take care of that for you. ;-)
For those exemptions requiring documentation, please have the required verification documents ready for upload before completing the form:
Living with Parents requires this signed and notarized form (downloadable here) with two forms of physical proof that the parent/guardian has established a current residence at the address provided.
Married or in Domestic Partnership requires proof of registered Marriage or Domestic Partnership License.
Single Custodial Parent requires proof of birth certificate
Associate's Degree from another college or university requires copy of official transcript or degree.
Financial Aid exemption requires that the student has filled out the FASFA, submits screenshots of your financial aid award(s) from the Financial Aid Self-Service Portal and also a letter detailing your financial need(s) for living off-campus.
Those in violation of the off-campus residency policy or who falsify information to meet criteria are subject to being billed full room and board rate. If it is determined that a student, while under the 3 year residency requirement policy, is inhabiting an off-campus residence, while also maintaining an on-campus residence simply for appearances, and have confirmed a new off-campus address, they are subject to being removed from the housing system and being billed full room and board rates
