Room and Apartment Consolidations

‼️ Housing Update – Action Needed if You Have an Open Bed in Your Fall 2025 Room/Apartment ‼️

Hi Students!

We’re reaching out from the Housing Office with an important update about Fall 2025 housing assignments—specifically for students who currently have an open bed in their room or apartment or those who haven’t yet selected housing.

What’s changing?
In the past, students were not always required to consolidate if they had an empty bed due to a roommate leaving or never being assigned one. Starting Fall 2025, that is changing.

To make the most of our housing space and ensure a vibrant, connected residential community, students with open beds will need to consolidate—either by finding a roommate or by being reassigned to fill a vacancy elsewhere.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Take Action Before June 1st:
  If you have an open bed in your room, we encourage you to connect with other students and make arrangements to fill the space on your own. This gives you more control over who you live with!
  
  

• Consolidation Starts June 1st:
  Beginning June 1st, the Housing Office will begin actively consolidating students to fill vacancies. While we’ll work to make good matches, you may be moved to a new assignment if your room remains under-occupied.
  
  

• Single Rooms Are Not Guaranteed:
  Only students who have purchased a designated single, are an RA or who have a medical accommodation for a single will remain in a single. If you're interested in a residence hall single and want to join the waitlist (in case any double rooms are converted), please fill out the single room waitlist form on the ourHC housing site here. 

• This Is an Ongoing Policy:
  Room consolidations will continue throughout the year—if a roommate leaves mid-semester or between fall and spring, we may reassign students to ensure full occupancy.
  
  

Next Steps for You:

1. Check your housing assignment to see if your room has an open bed. Fall 2025 Rosters can be seen by using the Room Change Process on the Housing Portal or by contacting your RA or CLC.
   
   

2. Talk to friends or classmates about potentially rooming together.
   
   

3. Act before June 1st to make a move on your terms. Moves can be done on your own in the Housing Portal using the Room Change Process or by contacting housing@hastings.edu.
